Between 1973 and 1994, was the meetg place of the Leeds branch of the Campaign for Homosexual Equaly, whose activi volved lobbyg MPs and supportg prott work. It’s this social si that has kept the group gog to the prent day, when they still meet, as of 2020, unr the name Leeds Gay Communy at the premis of Yorkshire MESMAC. Swarthmore is also the rehearsal space of Gay Abandon, one of the untry’s longt-nng LGBT choirs, found 1999.

Its monthly gay night regularly attracted crowds of over a thoand, wh ach parti g om as far afield as Nottgham and Manchter. Gee and his partner were also among the first gay upl the UK to enter to a civil partnership, wh a ceremony Leeds on the morng of 21st December 2005. Discsns, parti, walks and travel to other events were all anised by s members, who felt misunrstood by the gay muny and even faced hostily om some straight people who erroneoly blamed bisexual behavur for the spread of AIDS.
