His full name was Jean Philippe Marie Albert Gayet, son of Antoe Gayet, sks merchant, and Clde Emélie Flsière.

Albert Gayet was known as the “archaeologist of Antopolis” and whout his extensive rearch and documentatn of the se, very ltle would be known about this Gre-Roman cy. Albert Gayet (1856–1916), a French archaeologist who exvated at Antoë, exhibed textil Paris. In 1901, Gayet disvered near Antoë two fully clothed mummi, whom he intified g burial scriptns as Thaïs and Sérapn. Gayet's mummi were displayed together wh other grave goods a summer blockbter at the Mée Guimet Paris.

Both Henri Matisse (1869–1954) and Augte Rod (1840–1917) saw Gayet's exhibn Paris and began their own llectns of Late Antique textil, as did a number of their ntemporari.
