People opposn of the Gay Prom sported homophobic signs and wore bber glov and masks, which was a mon anti-gay prott tactic utilized the '90s. When the anizatn changed the lotn of the prom the number of protters creased, and for the first time at the 20th annual Hayward Gay Prom there were zero protters.

Kalee Kennedy, 19 and this year's prom queen, is om Antch, California: "I believe that gay prom is a wonrful opportuny for those who were prevly unable to attend their own prom due to prejudice or fear. I really felt like I belonged at gay prom.

Reyna Romero, 17, is om San Leandro, California: "I attend gay prom wh my girliend and some close iends. I really thk gay prom was a blast and I will always remember and cherish that night. Gay prom is not only important bee celebrat the dividuals, but bee was great to go to a prom where my girliend and I weren't discrimated agast.
