Gay’s arrival, she served as Divisn Chair at Montgomery County Communy College; Full Profsor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Chtnut Hill College and as Assistant Profsor of Psychology at Gettysburg College.

Arrivg at Fdlay durg the late 1960s – a historilly turbulent time our natn’s history, marked by the fight for civil rights and the Vietnam War, among other challeng – Gay said she me to Fdlay College wh what was then the most Black stunts the Universy had admted a class up to that time. The world was openg up for Gay, and she was learng many new thgs about who she was and who the people around her were; so much so, seemed, that she found great tert learng more about what ma different people thk and act their own unique ways, and, as a rult, she subsequently majored psychology and Spanish at Fdlay.

Nye, for whom there is an endowed scholarship wh the College of Edutn, and who would have her Spanish class meet sometim at her home to have tas, (“That was the first time I had that food, ” Gay said. This social gatherg of knowledge also led Gay to meetg her hband while at Fdlay College; he was a stunt at nearby Bluffton College, and would, along wh his iends, e to the danc that the Black Stunt Unn hosted. Gay graduated om Fdlay College, got married, and was off to Bowlg Green for graduate school, where she ntued her tert and study psychology, and gave birth to her first child.
