By the end of the first hour, I had 19 match and seven msag. By the end of the week, I had 49 match and 25 msag. A 49 percent succs rate wh match isn’t bad, but I was nfint that the profile wh long hair would beat .</p><div class="Contaer-bkChBi byNLHx"></div><p>So the followg week, I ma a new Tr profile that was intil to my old one but wh pictur of me wh long hair (a wig, sce i haven’t had long hair sce high school) stead of my ual pixie cut. Once aga, I swiped right on the first 100 profil. After the first hour, I had eight match and two msag—noticeably fewer than the amount that I had after the first hour of creatg the short hair profile. Intertg, I thought, but probably an anomaly. Give till the end of the week to tch up. By the end of the week, however, the long hair profile only had 38 match and 15 msag.</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-1 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p>That’s 22 percent fewer match and 40 percent fewer msag than I received on my Tr profile wh short hair! I was shocked.</p><p>I nducted the same experiment simultaneoly on OkCupid. Sce OkCupid is set up differently om Tr that don’t require a mutual match, I jt created my profile and then sat back and waed. For my OkC profile wh the short hair, I received 33 lik and 9 msag wh the first hour. By the end of the week, I had 484 lik and 77 msag.</p><p>You know the drill by now: I created an intil profile wh pictur of long hair for the send week. By the end of the first hour, I had 36 lik and 5 msag—pretty close to the short hair profile’s rults. But then by the end of the week, the long hair profile had only garnered 237 lik and 31 msag.</p><p>That’s 51 percent fewer lik and about 60 percent fewer msag than I received wh short hair. apparently rryg around an rrect assumptn about the way men view women wh short hair. This forced me to take a moment to unpack my reasons for this. I myself have had short hair for years and I love how looks—not only on myself, but on other women as well. I’ve also only ever dated men who liked my short crop. So why did I feel so nfint that men, general, prefer women wh long hair?</p><p>All I n say is that ’s somethg that I grew up hearg so often I mt have ternalized as fact. I heard om important men my life—such as my father, my brother and his iends, my high school csh—and saw that view reflected the media, specifilly the way that female celebri’ long hair is prized.</p><p>It’s always a big al when a woman cuts off her hair, whether ’s a TV show or a movie or real life. I let a few sexist men speak for men everywhere. The worst part is that I filtered my own appearance through their perspective and saw as realy, whout even realizg . Sure, I regnized that remarks like “women shouldn’t have short hair” and “women wh short hair are ls attractive than women wh long hair” are sexist.
