”In March, some men will cry the need for an Internatnal Women’s Day, celebrated on the is Pri Month, a time to reflect on and celebrate lbian, gay, bisexual, transgenr and queer history. There is a level of social and systemic privilege not afford to many members of the LGBTQ muny North Ameri, and certaly many untri around the is herently polilPri has been celebrated every year June sce 1970 after the 1969 Stonewall rts New York, when police raid the Stonewall Canada, Toronto’s Pri was lnched siar fashn after protts epted when police raid four bathho Febary 1981 and arrted hundreds of gay motive has always been — and should rema — polil. WHY IS BEG GAY SUCH A BIG AL?
Why when a gay person hs on a straight person, ’s a big nflict. A more rpectful way to handle the suatn is to simply say, “Sorry, I’m not terted, ” or “I’m flattered, but I’m not gay. Anyone — straight or gay — should always be treated wh rpect, pecially when beg turned down.
WHEN BEG GAY IS ‘NOT A BIG DEAL’
Straight people who fear that other people may thk they’re gay need to know that ’s not an sult to be thought of as gay, and people don’t need to feel threatened or embarrassed or overly fensive to try to “prove” that they’re not gay. In our society there’s a tremendo amount of fear and hatred of people who are gay, lbian, or bisexual.
This fear is lled homophobia.
It’s ed by ignorance, or misrmatn and a lack of unrstandg about what gay, lbian, and bisexual people are really like. Most people who are homophobic are worried about their own sexualy and project that fear on others.
