THE ANGLIN CHURCH’S ‘KICK THE GUTS’ TO GAY PARISHNERS

If the Anglin Church mak pronouncements on the matter of homosexualy, they tend to be eher nmnatory or, more recently, half-hearted.
They have ually appeased neher the fahful nor the gay populatn. Unfortunately, for anyone hopg that the Church may have reversed s posn on same-sex attractn and that this was the first olive branch, Welby softened the blow by cg two paragraphs of a rolutn om the 1998 Lambeth Conference: one of the paragraphs affirms that to be homosexual is to live opposn to scripture; a subsequent paragraph stat that the nference nnot approve of the blsg of same-sex unns. The Nigerian archbishop was rpondg to a 'pastoral' statement ma on January 19 by the Anglin Church of North Ameri (ACNA), which, although affirmed the Christian stance that same-sex attractn is patible wh scripture, acknowledged that gay people have been ma to feel visible by the Church.

There was nothg radil the statement, which at one pot gave crence to nversn therapy, and after a verbose few paragraphs nclud that uldn't even e the phrase "gay Christian" bee is too “problematic”. Provg that wh the Anglin Church there are numero gre of homophobia, Nduba lled even this statement “tantamount to a subtle pulatn to regnise and promote same-sex relatns among s members”.
Strangely, he went on to say that "gay Christian" was as oxymoronic a term as "Christian murrer" or "Christian terrorist" – spe the fact that, ultimately, the ACNA statement sentially me to the same ncln (albe wh ls flammatory language).
