Raymond Holt, pta of the 99th precct, is an openly gay Black man who has a Pri flag his office and has a hband lled Kev. Played by Andre Brgher, Holt subverts stereotyp about gay people nstantly throughout the show’s n – and has been tly glor to watch. Several episos of the show have also touched on the racist and homophobic discrimatn Holt has faced as a p, brgg some much-need realism to the character’s arc.
Its sual portrayal of a married gay uple is a joy to behold. In the episo, Holt tells Terry: “When gay marriage was legalised, we weren’t sure if or when was gog to be stck down, so speed was of the sence. Jake Peralta adopts Capta Holt and Kev as his ‘gay dads’, and is adorable.
Many queer men have faced homophobia om straight men, so the fatherly relatnship between Jake Peralta and Capta Holt is a breath of h air. Brooklyn Ne-Ne broke new ground by allowg s gay characters to have heartfelt relatnships wh straight men, while also firmly rejectg homophobic unrton.
