Abstract This qualative study examed gay men’s relled nversatns about sexual inty and sexual behavrs wh both their mothers and fathers. Thirteen terviews wh gay men, ag 19-30, were analyzed g the erative ductive and ductive procs related to scriptive qualative analysis. Rults showed that parents ially assumed their sons were heterosexual, ially viewed homosexualy as a s, engaged nversatns around sexual safety, and provid limed HIV rmatn the nversatns. However, mothers approached the nversatns wh broar emotnal reactns to their son’s sexualy, while fathers displayed narrower sentimental rang and provid more tangible, ls emotnal support for their sons. Though the mothers and fathers were acceptg of their sons, they drew om their socialized genr experienc when engagg the nversatns. Remendatns guidg parents and children to start or ntue such nversatns are provid.
