Denver is one of ne ci vyg to host Gay Gam XI Augt 2022. The gam, which occur every four years, are ma up of several clive sportg events that draw thoands of athlet om around the world. The first Gay Gam took place San Francis 1982. Denver, along wh Guadalajara, Hong Kong, Los Angel, At, Dallas, Salt Lake Cy, San Francis and Washgton, D.C., submted bids earlier this year to host the 2022 gam. A board om the Feratn of Gay Gam will narrow the field of ne ntenrs to three Febary, and the wng cy will be announced October 2017. It’s timated that the event uld pump more than $50 ln to Denver’s enomy. The Universy of Denver, Universy of Colorado and Metropolan State Universy are servg as higher tn partners the bid to brg the gam to Denver. DU beme volved the project last June, and four reprentativ om the Universy are servg on var teams and mte reprentg Denver’s bid for the gam. Stuart Halsall, associate vice chancellor for recreatn, serv on the Sports Program Learship Team; Nile Nitera, associate profsor the Graduate School of Social Work, serv on the Human Rights Program Learship Team; Arm Afsahi, vice chancellor for advancement, serv on the Fancg and Fundraisg Learship Team; and Amy Kg, former vice chancellor for human rourc, serv on the Human Rourc and Volunteers Learship Team. “The Universy of Denver is a partner this event and is supportg the host mtee and Vis Denver by providg learship and venu to acmodate events, as well as a potential hog lotn for athlet of the event,” Halsall says. “We are engaged workg to brg the gam to Denver and helpg showse the cy and s related partners.” More than 30 sportg events take place at Gay Gam, and unlike the Olympics, athlet do not have to qualify to participate. Some of the sports featured clu: aquatics; basketball; bowlg; darts; soccer; softball; table tennis; volleyball; billiards/pool; flag football; skateboardg; roo; and wrtlg. DU potentially uld host aquatics (divg, swimmg, synchronized swimmg and water polo), basketball, figure skatg and ice hockey events. Some of the reasons for selectg DU as a host se, acrdg to the bid proposal, clu s unique lotn and accsibily to the Denver light rail, s “timate and stylish venu” and “abily to hold an ternatnal event of this sle and magnu.” In a letter to the board and legat of the Feratn of Gay Gam, Colorado Gov.
