The velopments began to tablish the form of Gayfield Square, which forms the heart of the tate.

It was part of Jollie's plan om the begng that this should be so; January 1783 he advertised that the Gayfield grounds were to be fed for buildg purpos 'acrdg to a plan. Area of Gayfield Place [is] to rema an open space for all time g. '5 Gayfield Square was at one time the home of Kid MacKenzie, Lord Provost 1817-19.
