Click <a href=">here</a> for that d.</em></p><p class="">Most know <a href=">Randy Rabow</a> as the sger, satirist, and edian pk-amed glass whose Broadway-themed vio parodi skewered former Print Donald Tmp and others over the last five years.</p><p class="">Those vios, of urse, keep on g — more targets have clud topics rangg om vacce distributn to Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill. The days, 's hard for Rabow to believe that the idols whose posters and Playbills he plastered on his bedroom walls as a lonely, bullied kid, growg up Long Island and Florida — people like Stephen Sondheim, Patti LuPone, Barbra Streisand — are now his admirers. Rabow wr about all a new memoir “<a href=">Playg wh Myself</a>,” which is as funny as is poignant.</p><p class="">Rabow says many rears who me to know him as Tmp’s “mil, on-screen, edy nemis” don’t know that his own father is a “clone” of the former print. His father lacked a moral pass — and as he grew up and his relatnship wh his father soured, his supportive mother and grandmother told him his dad felt jealo. Rabow stggled to unrstand his father’s jealoy but has sce e to terms wh .</p><p class="">When Rabow me out as gay — a moment that didn’t surprise his iends or<br />mother — his father took as a “personal afont,” he says. His father was never outwardly disapproved of his queerns but, “like Tmp, he really didn’t have a real belief system except that everyone should adore him. He was right about everythg and he was always the victim.”</p><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-1"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div><p class="">Rabow’s support and spiratn me om his mother and maternal grandmother, the latter among his earlit edic fluenc. He scrib his grandmother as a perfect blend of Lucille Ball, Joan Rivers and Betty Whe.</p><p class="">At school, however, Rabow felt creasgly aaid as he grew olr and his bulli got bigger. To pe, he ped to his imagatn.</p><p class="nt-medium">“Ironilly, mil theater and pism through fantasy, pretendg I was the characters my epic llectn of Broadway st albums helped me get through,” he says.</p><p class="">In the book, he wr about the strange dichotomy he prented to his classmat. Durg the school day, he remaed silent fear of standg out. Yet he always put his name on the sign-up sheets for school mils and ually sred the lead role.</p><p class="">After graduatg om high school, Rabow spent time performg on a cise<br />ship wh a boyiend. Then ma his way to New York, where he stggled to make a livg as a rtrant host (for a while at Hooter’s) and offic. Durg this time his life, he was sexually asslted by a edy producer who tricked Rabow to g away for the weekend wh him unr the guise of a bs trip.</p><p class="">Though reluctant to clu the story his book, he’s happy he did bee of the support he’s received. So many people — particularly gay men — shared siar experienc wh him. Rabow believ this is somethg that happens “que equently” the gay muny but isn’t really talked about, he says.</p><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-2"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div><p class="">Rabow’s first big break as a satirist me after rerdgs of Mel Gibson’s now-famo homophobic, misogynist rants were ma public about a ago. It was then that he me up wh the ia of sertg himself to a vio, playg Gibson’s boyiend and rpondg to the tira.</p><p class="nt-medium">“It was really the birth of this shtick of me,” he says, which he lls “Forrt Gumpg myself” to the headl.</p><p class="">And then me the n-up to the 2016 electn. One of the first vios he ma that cycle was a send-off to Republin printial ndidate Carly Fra when she dropped out of the race lled “GOP Dropout” (sung to the tune of Grease’s “Bety School Dropout”). After went viral, he uld barely keep up.</p><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-3"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div><p class="nt-medium">“I hadn’t slept for about four years,” he says, scribg how he stggled to follow every tick the news cycle. “It was thrillg, was strsful and was exhilaratg every way.”</p><p class="">Rabow never heard om Tmp or then-first lady Melania Tmp, who Rabow skewered a vio followg her trip to the borr wearg a jacket embossed wh the words “I don’t re.” However, he did hear om both Anthony Sramucci — “a big fan,” Rabow says — and Tmp fixer Michael Cohen, who ved Rabow to be a gut on his podst. He also heard that certa members of the admistratn were fans.</p><p class="nt-medium">“I’m assumg Melania,” he says.</p><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-4"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div><p class="">Though Rabow’s reer had taken off ways he never expected, hasn’t been whout pfalls. After makg a spoof vio where Rabow swoons over then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and what seemed like his exemplary handlg of the panmic, the tis shifted.</p><p class="">First, revelatns emerged about Cuomo’s mishandlg of New York nursg hom durg the panmic. Then, allegatns of sexual misnduct Cuomo’s office emerged, which ultimately led to his rignatn.</p><p class="">That turn of events rulted unexpected vrl toward Rabow, who says the vio was meant as much to parody New Yorkers’ fixatn on Cuomo as was the ernor himself. But the anger didn’t end there, as ter trolls started tweetg out s-old jok Rabow had told durg the early phas of his edy reer that he says he wouldn’t make today.</p><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-5"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div><p class="">The experience was a paful one for him — and one he was eager to wre about.</p><p class="nt-medium">“I thk ’s very nuanced. It’s not somethg I have all the answers on even to this day,” he says. “While I never want to offend anybody, I’m also a big fenr of edy and ee speech edy. We’re an tertg time now where thgs that were acceptable two years ago are beg pulled om the airwav.”</p><p class="">People who acce him of beg bigoted or tolerant aren’t patg an accurate picture of the whole person, he says.
