The realy is that this is a film that s queer protagonist as a ba-and-swch: seems as though Hunter, his challengg g-out storyle and his relatnship wh his homophobic father, unrstandg mother Ruth (Carol Ludwick) and perky “animal whisperer” sister Jenny (Addisyn Wallace) will take center stage.
This is the rennectn you mentn: Wayne tells his big gay son that he’s strong, asks him to be “a man”…and kill him (which Hunter, for the rerd, do). Groupers, on the other hand, is offensive, homophobic trash masqueradg as the cematic versn of an ultimate ally. Here’s my take on why that scene was removed: if we are to believe that Pchfork is gay and hooked up wh Hunter at one pot, the implitn is that Pchfork’s queerns is the rult of the ctuo relatnship he has wh his mother.
