It felt ceful to be there, cked out rabows, enjoyg a queer space when I wasn’t yet sure I belonged. When I later kissed another woman on the dance floor, I uldn’t tell how much of my motivatn me om wantg to, and how much me the feelg that I had somethg to prove.</p><div class="Contaer-bkChBi byNLHx"></div><p>Early the followg year, I moved to Brooklyn. By this pot I’d started to thk of myself as bisexual, but still didn’t outwardly claim the label as I had yet to date anyone who wasn’t a man. I re-download Bumble and Hge shortly after and set my preference to solely women for the first time. I loved matchg wh, msagg, and datg women, and I was exced to fally explore this part of my sexualy. I figured I’d date sually for a b and was happy to be sgle while I settled to a new cy.</p><div class="AdWrapper-dQtivb fZrssQ ad ad---ntent"><div class="ad__slot ad__slot---ntent" data-no-id="ab8b"></div></div><p>Ls than three months later, that plan was thrown off track by my now-girliend. I knew I liked her almost immediately, but was hant to agree to exclivy. On the surface, my ratnale was that I jt wasn’t lookg for mment. But the real reason was that part of me felt like I still hadn’t earned the right to ll myself bisexual.</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-1 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p>At 26, I’d spent a datg boys and men. Was I allowed to ll myself anythg other than straight after jt a handful of dat wh women?</p><p>I felt bisexual, but I’d spent enough time on Twter to know that bi women who’ve primarily dated men the past are often acced of beg performative, or “bi for clout.” I also worried that I <em>looked</em> too straight to claim otherwise. I wonred if I should chop off my long hair, drs a b ls feme, or maybe pierce somethg—anythg that would make my queerns more visible.</p><p>In retrospect, ’s clear that this was rooted ternalized biphobia.</p><p><a href=">Biphobia</a> is a pervasive <a href=">issue</a>, even wh the LGBTQ+ muny. Though I’ve now been wh my girliend for almost a year and a half, she told me not long after we started datg that she’d prevly avoid datg bi girls. This rerc the harmful <a href=">stereotyp</a> that bisexual women are straight women “gog through a phase” and bisexual men are gay men who haven’t yet “admted” that they’re gay.</p><p>In the same study, rearchers noted that “lbian women and gay men often do not perceive bisexuals as ‘te queers’ and therefore feel that bisexuals tervene gay and lbian space that is not theirs.”</p><p>Essentially, many people see bisexualy as an thentic, temporary label that’s ed only while a person is the procs of figurg out their “real” inty as eher hetero- or homosexual. It’s no wonr, then, that bisexual people of all genrs often qutn the validy of their inti and feel the need to jtify their place the LGBTQ+ muny.</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-2 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p>When I was still closeted and qutng, I turned to the ter for guidance and end up on Redd’s <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">r/bisexual</a> subredd. It was validatg to see how many other people felt the same nfn I did over whether they were “bi enough,” and I was pleasantly surprised by how overwhelmgly supportive the muny was.</p><p>Today, a search for the phrase “bi enough” that subredd returns hundreds of posts. Most of the posters have a datg history that skews heavily to one genr, or are monogamo relatnships wh someone of the oppose genr, and are generally askg whether they still unt as bisexual.</p><p>I unrstand that sire for validatn. I spent enough time lookg for myself. Ultimately, there are no benchmarks that make a person “bi enough” to be valid. There’s no need for an evenly spl datg rerd, or even for any “experience” datg people of any certa genr.</p><p>If you’re attracted to people of more than one genr, you n intify as bisexual. You are part of the LGBTQ+ muny, and you have a place queer spac.</p><p>Of urse, this isn’t to say that the knowledge that your sexualy is valid should (or will) make any lgerg secury sudnly disappear. Personally, I still sometim feel like I have to jtify my prence queer spac, bee I still <em>look</em> jt as straight as I did before I dated women.</p><p>But there’s no specific way I or any other bisexual person “should” look, jt like there’s no specific sexual experience, datg history, or relatnship stat you “should” have. She’s been rponsible for the r/LGBT subredd for nearly four years, but durg the recent harassment spike, she beme trated by the lack of rponse seen om Redd’s paid staff. “There is very ltle help available durg brigas,” she says.</p><p>Aimee says that when morators make an ial requt for assistance, they’re often met wh tomatilly generated msag, which she says isn’t helpful. “We need human teractn to say: ‘Hey, we've heard you, we're lookg at this now.
