Seeg this stabily and the need for more tablished and stable unsellg and support servic for lbians and gay men, a group of social workers (Miriam Green, Bce Garsi and Joanne Stt), set up a Gay and Lbian Social Servic un 1975 at the provcially-fund Ville Marie Social Servic Centre at 5 Weredale Park Wtmount.

Workg wh a Gay Communy Advisory Group, and noticg the difficulti enuntered by Gay Le, they brought the helple unr the purview of the Ville Marie Social Servic Centre, givg a home and more permanent fundg. In 1993, Gay Le joed the newly formed Table Concertatn s lbienn et gais du Québec where the Print at the time, Gregg Blachford, met the Print of Gai Éute, Lrent McCutcheon, and a uful alliance began.

La Table Concertatn had been set up to prent a uned ont of lbian and gay anisatns as a reactn to the risg number of unsolved murrs and asslts at that time the Gay Village and beyond. La Table was succsful phg the Quebec ernment to ask the Quebec Human Rights Commissn to hold an enquiry to Vlence and Discrimatn agast gays and lbians Quebec.

In late 1993, Gay Le was asked, along wh Gai Éute, to give ttimony at the first day of that enquiry. The enquiry’s report was que progrsive for the time as poted the fger at the police, accg them for s hostily towards the gay and lbian muny. New problems for Gay Le emerged bee, wh the reanizatn of Social Servic Quebec 1993, Ville Marie Social Servic uld no longer ntue to even hoe Gay Le, much ls fance them.

But by July 1994, Gay Le was fally able to secure a sk and a phone the evengs the CCGLM/Montreal LGBTQ+ Communy Centre. The suatn for Gay Le improved nsirably more when, April 1996, Gai Éute ved Gay Le to jo them at their new premis upstairs at Fire Statn 20 on e Sat-Antoe.

So, after fifteen years of separatn, Gay Le and Gai Éute began to aga have a close and mutually beneficial llaboratn.

After stayg for a few years the “Fire Statn”, Gay Le moved lotns several tim, always wh Gai Éute. Don Budd, an origal volunteer om Gay Le’s begngs 1976, retired 1998 after 22 years as a volunteer; he passed away 2008 at the age of 88. Though women played a proment part the early stag of Gay Le, the proportn of female to male volunteers was often low.

From 1999 to 2004, though, Gay Le had two nsecutive female Prints, Clara Gabriel and Andrea Zan. Clara Gabriel (red shirt), Diane Wilson (ont right), Le Nicholson, David Wright, Doug Jackson, Andrea Zan, Gregg Blachford (back row) were all, at different tim, heavily volved Gay Le as Prints and Treasurer. Durg the annual Divers-Cé/Pri celebratns Montreal durg the late 1990s and 2000s, Gay Le would have a table at the Communy Day and would march the Pri Para.
