SARAJEVO -- Hundreds of gay and lbian activists and supporters marched through Sarajevo as the Bosnian pal hosted s first LGBT "pri" para. Sarajevo has tried to hold LGBT events the past, cludg a film ftival 2014, but those were dispted by gay-rights opponents. Ambassador Eric Nelson, who is openly gay, said on September 8 that "I am marchg today wh my lleagu om the EU and Swzerland -- all untri that stand for equal rights for everyone, and that's what Bosnians and Herzeians want their future, so let's thk about how to create that.
Ahead of the event, leaflets appeared around Sarajevo showg a doctored photo of Nelson ont of a rabow flag, sayg "Gay is not OK" red letterg. In 2008, eight people cludg a police officer were jured at the Queer Sarajevo Ftival when unter-prottors attacked ftival-goers, while 2014 the cy’s Merlka Queer Film Ftival was stormed by a dozen masked men who shouted homophobic abe, jured three people and clared “there will be no Pri para Sarajevo”. Posters pictg Nelson, who is gay, along wh the slogan ‘gay is not OK’ appeared the Sarajevo suburb of Dobrja near a US universy on om the event showed Mr Nelson amongst the crowd flanked by pla cloth secury personnel.
