In 2009, After a year of sutg potential s to hold the game, the Feratn of Gay Gam (FCG) selected Cleveland out of fourteen ci that bid to host the gam. In a proposal to the FGG, the Cleveland Foundatn partnered wh the Internatnal Gay Roo Associatn, a multatnal ordatg group of roo events for LGBT+ participants, to ask that the sport be clud should Cleveland host the gam.
There was also an attempt om cy lears to pass a domtic partner registry for same sex upl to show support for the Gam which was blocked by a group of misters, who stated that terfered wh Oh’s ban on gay marriage.

The Cleveland Foundatn award a $250, 000 grant to the Gay Gam, makg the 2014 gam the first to have a prentg sponsor. The gam received a swift name change, and om 2013 onward was known as the Gay Gam prented by the Cleveland Foundatn. Notably, the UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST also sponsored Gay Gam 9, beg the first relig group to ntribute a large sponsorship to the event.
The CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART hosted “Out Art, ” and there was Gay Gam Night at PROGRESSIVE FIELD addn to multiple parti. The Gam were also weled to the cy by Termal Tower, which was pated rabow to celebrate the event, and the WESTERN RESERVE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, which hosted a special exhib for the Gay Gam: "The Victory of Self: The LGBT Communy Northeast Oh". Events for the Gay Gam 9 were held across 40 venu, cludg the CLEVELAND METROPARKS ZOO, the Veale Convotn, Recreatn and Athletic Center at CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY, the Cleveland Mall, and the East 9th Street Pier at Voovich Park, among many others.
