"That's why every Black child gets a talkg to about how to survive Ameri: what not to do, how to drs, how to talk ... and that extends to the LGBTQ muny. They tell , 'Why would you want to put one more layer of opprsn or one more difficult thg to get to this world? For example, a 1977 episo of the “Sanford and Son” spoff “Sanford Arms” featured Travis, a Black gay civil rights attorney who was a iend of one of the seri’ characters. Black gay characters, when they appeared on televisn at all, returned to beg more effemate. For example, on “Saturday Night Live,” Eddie Murphy portrayed Dn.
