But members of the lol LGBTQ+ muny say Pri is stronger than ever 2022.</p><p class="">Dozens of anizatns are markg the month wh their own events.</p><p class="">One event took place Saturday on Boston Common, where dozens of nners and walkers laced up their sneakers for the send-annual Road of Rabows 5K, hosted by the Boston Theater Company.</p><p class="">It's billed as one of the first clive 5K rac Massachetts, which means participants are not required to name their genr to sign up. The urse was also Amerins wh Disabili Act pliant, and wners were chosen based on their stume — not how fast they crossed the fish le.</p><p class="nt-medium">"Pri is back," said Joey Frangieh, Boston Theater Company artistic director. "There are so many events happeng and Pri is boomg, and 's the hands of so many amazg nonprofs."</p><p class="">Among the anizatns tablg at the 5K was Trans Ristance MA. Supportg the race was a no-braer, said KB Kkel, the anizatn's munitns ordator.</p><p class="nt-medium">"I am a trans and queer person who's an athlete," Kkel said. It promis the kd of diversy that uld veer (or possibly reen) toward chaos at any moment. There’s a poro le ed between eclectic artwork and the hodgepodge. So ’s not whout some hatn that I sum up my imprsns of the <a href=">30th Annual Boston LGBT Film Ftival</a> g <i>that </i>word. I n’t help . The roster of films store is such a stellar medley.</p><p class="">First, let’s get (only) one thg straight. The LGBT Film Ftival has bona fis that are hard to beat. Several world and North Amerin premier are on tap. Films screeng at the Mm of Fe Arts, Instute of Contemporary Art, Brattle, Coolidge Corner and Paramount Theatr e to direct om Sundance, Slamdance and the Berlale. And this year offers the but of the Lato Film Program and Contemporary Amerin Cema Seri, not to mentn a bevy of ternatnal flicks. It’s a lot for any one film ftival to une unr s banner. Here Boston, we get to take all over 10 glor days om April 3 to 12.</p><div class=""><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-1"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div></div><p class="">Those wh a penchant for documentary, om quirky to hard-htg, are luck. This year’s ftival brgs the bizarre, the unbelievable and the unnny to the big screen. Directors Allison Berg and François Kerdren’s 2013 “<a href=">The Dog</a>” is all of the above, a tenr (tle, asi) portra of the late John Wojtowicz. Most viewers will not know this lorful eccentric whose foibl are epic. Wojtowicz’s claim to fame was a haphazardly attempted robbery of a Brooklyn bank to fance his male wife’s sex-change operatn, antics that spired the Al Paco-headled 1975 movie “Dog Day Afternoon.” Dpe the absurdy of the tale he tells, Wojtowicz was ahead of his time by a long shot. He married a man, a transgenr woman and a ciswoman the heyday of the gay rights movement, well before activists would take up gay marriage as a civil rights issue.</p><div class=""><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-2"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div></div><p class="">By parison, is astoundg that gay marriage is an issue that polariz muni 2014. Yoba Richen’s “<a href=">The New Black</a>” lv to the polil stggle for marriage equaly Maryland, gog door to door, to the home, and down the divid aisl of lol black church. But Richen don’t play p the blame on said church. Instead, she tak a nuanced view of the reactns and receptns of the Ain Amerin muny to the pronouncements of their clergy. “The New Black” documents both the steadfast fight for LGBT equaly the muny and the ncerted efforts of those who try to feat by referendum.</p><div class=""><div class="article-sectn--youtube article-sectn--embed wiscreen"><div class="youtube" id="yt-embed-3"><picture><img src="></picture><div class="play-button"></div></div></div></div><p class="">The homophobia she lays bare is not unique to the black church. It fds s mirror Kate Logan’s “<a href=">Kidnapped for Christ</a>.” Logan, an evangelil raised by non-believers (apparently they exist), sets out to document Escuela Caribe, an Amerin-n Christian “behavr modifitn” program the Domin Republic. While her first thought is not to document wispread abe, soon be clear to Logan that all is not what seems at this cuela. For one, program managers e the middle of the night, takg adolcents like David out of their beds and hlg them away to the island. David is gay, a fact his parents nnot accept. They leave no trace of his whereabouts. Once at the school for “troubled teens,” stunts unrgo the strange tortur of reform, strict obedience to bizarre l the breach of which rults “swats,” phups, enforced silence, or maybe even the “quiet room,” a small space wh but a mattrs on the floor for pany. This is a te story. What’s worse, there are thoands of “reform” programs like Escuela Caribe and a btlg billn-dollar “troubled teen” bs.</p><p class="">The LGBT Film Ftival has a lot to offer — maybe too much — but don’t have everythg. Lbianism was never illegal Bra bee, as that charmer Queen Victoria put , “Women do not do such thgs.” The visibily of lbians is storied. Ironic. Sure, there’s an L LGBT, but of the filmic offergs, I unted only 13 programs about lbians--out of 54 programs, a total of 115 films. Give cred where cred is due, certaly. Many of the programs are of broad queer appeal. The 30th Annual LGBT Film Ftival is a smasbord for movie buffs, now more than ever before.
