He’d be listeng to his rerd llectn and exercisg at home. So we built this enormoly nt, tan-of-the-world spa bathroom and put the signature em that you would have that at home, which is a Peloton. I ri all the time, not a bathroom like that. . Carrie rried a Fendi bag, that was the bag of the moment. Peloton is the bike of the moment. The fact of the matter is, uld have been any bike. It uld have happened walkg down the street. It uld have happened slippg on a banana peel. It uld have happened his sleep. But what we wanted to do was reflect the world as we know , and people are exercisg on that betiful, betiful em. And ’s geo. The nsc thought of the high road of iendship is what was tertg to me. How iends e together tim of adversy. One of the strongt thgs I knew that I would be able to explore by havg Carrie go through Big’s ath is the strength that she gets om her iends. I thk that that’s really where iends show up and are more than fay, bee fay is volved the ath. Friends are volved how you feel. And each of those iends are there for her—whether ’s sleepg wh her and monorg her sleepg pills, or tryg to make better.</p><p class="paywall">I love Samantha, and I know our characters love each other. I wrote them for many, many years. And my heart, I knew if Mr. Big died, Samantha would send flowers and they would be extravagant and flawls. That’s what the gture is—’s about what would really happen if that happened to this group of iends.</p><p class="paywall"><strong>I was surprised to see the show really lve to Carrie and Samantha’s breakup. The he took a turn for the worst. I really thought we uld get through the season. When he took a turn, we had to talk about the fact that he uldn’t make . And we had to adjt [storyl].</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-5 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p class="paywall">First of all, we were all pletely shock, cludg Willie. Then we unrstood that he was only gog to be able to plete three of the episos. And we had already shot his hilar lunch episo, which is so good. We shot another scene of him which was hilar. . then beme, “I n’t e to set.”</p><p class="paywall">The last scene he filmed was Big’s funeral, and he was magnificent. There was one more scene that I wrote to more thoroughly expla his absence by [his character] gog to Japan. That was a betiful scene—I say that bee Sarah told me was betiful between Carrie and Stanford. It was really their goodbye. But Willie was too sick to plete .</p><p class="paywall">I thought, I’m not gonna really lean to this [ath as a storyle]. It’s too sad. And ’s too tragic. It’s not a fictnal ath. It’s a real ath. So I jt kd of put a ltle patch of th ice that Anthony [<strong>Mar Cantone</strong>] and Carrie had to skate over to get to the other si. I knew by then that the dience would know he wasn’t alive, and his character wasn’t Japan. So I jt sort of ma as light and as silly as possible and we went forward.</p><p class="paywall"><strong>Gog back to Carrie. . . after the character griev, she’ll have a h slate terms of her romantic life. There’s a future episo tled “Sex and the Widow,” so I assume that we’re gog see Carrie get back out there datg-wise. Are we gog to see her on Hge? On Tr? What other morn them and technology will we see the character grapplg wh?</strong></p><p class="paywall">She will go up agast anythg that you would thk she would e up agast—datg wise, agg wise. Anythg that is the world that might reflect Carrie Bradshaw this life, we will at least talk about. Carrie ed to have a voiceover, right? She ed to be able to tell you what everythg meant. She has no voice over now, bee she has no overview. Her world was wrecked. She don’t have an overview. She has one sentence at the end of every episo, and ’s the moment, jt like when Big died.
