However, that dream was abptly pulled out om unrneath him. “My fay was gog through some thgs at the time and I was dog the applitn procs by myself. I didn’t get my fancial aid papers by adle and all of my applitns were whdrawn,” he explas of the blow.</p><p>Wh his only way out of the projects squashed, Anthony had nowhere else to turn and cid to jo the Navy. However, was a teacher at New Utrecht who refoced his trajectory. “I’m nvced she was an angel sent om above to show me the path I was supposed to take my life.” That teacher, New Utrecht theater director Sara Steweiss, saw a spark the stunt and remend he apply for the Amerin Mil and Dramatic Amy, otherwise known as AMDA, a theater school loted across the East River Manhattan. “I was like, what? No way. I’ll never get . Unlike his fellow actg stunts who were rabid fans of mil theater, he had a limed knowledge of the genre, bis the shows he starred high school or when he ed to watch the movie versn of <em>Rent</em> wh an ex-girliend. “The kids were jt appalled that I didn’t know who (Broadway stars like) Kelli O’Hara or Elae Strch were,” Ramos says. “I was pletely unfortable, to put plaly. I didn’t know anythg… was lerally a ‘J, take the wheel’ moment. At one pot I was like, ‘Oh, you want me to act?” However, Ramos wasn’t gog to let the strs overtake him. “So many people put their name on the le for me and they totally didn’t have to do that. om.</p></div></div></div><p>After what was an isolatg and difficult first semter, Anthony began to fd his footg and learned to appreciate the fer aspects of mil theater. He was later signed to an agent — the one that later dropped him — and even land some mor off-Broadway rol. Then, <em>Haton</em> happened. “There was no buzz,” says Anthony of the early days of the workshop. “No one really knew about . When I first heard the mos, I thought, there’s no way this is gog to be a mil. Once I kept on listeng, I was like…Wow. This is crazy. This is ridiculo. I’ve never heard anythg as bananas as this.” However, stardom was still a ways away. “My life didn’t change immediately at all. I got the part and rehearsals weren’t startg for another few months. I had to figure out what to do. I was broke.” In between gettg st and the show’s off-Broadway but at New York’s Public Theater, he held his own by takg odd jobs at a bakery and a dayre center.</p><p>Now, ’s safe to say his life has changed.
