Seth Greenleaf’s film adds nuance and pth to the ia of what looks like to be a gay man, and an athlete. Davis moved to New York Cy after his NFL reer end followg a knee jury, wh the goal of beg able to e out and live openly as a gay man. He says the football league was the first group of gay men he met, thanks to a relatnship he had built wh Zeigler after sendg him an email.
I mean, I was a former NFL player and I knew was a gay league, but that was all ego and me not really havg enough experience to realize that gay men, women, trans folks n play sports and actually be really good at . ” But Davis says that when he got to the practice, “I walked out onto the field and saw all the gay men playg football and I fell love wh them immediately.
” For him, the league gave him a safe haven to “terrogate my own ias of femy and masculy and ternalized homophobia, ” but that didn’t happen for Davis right away. He led the Warrr to three straight Gay Bowl champnships after jog the league, but ’s mostly a blur for him. “When I joed 2005 or 2006, I still had yet to wrtle wh or terrogate what meant to be a gay man who… loved sports, ” he says.
