Though no one uld verify that assertn, the gatherg is rare for the area, acrdg to lol event was anized by Michael Raye Lutz of Hilton Head Island, who created Lowuntry Pri July 2012 as a nonprof support group for gay people Befort County.

"The South is not the easit place to e out as gay, lbian, bisexual and transgenr, " Lutz said. "Gay-pri ftivals and gay-rights groups had popped up Savannah, Charlton and Columbia, but Lutz noted their absence Befort County.
"Lutz, who was born a woman but intifi as a man, also leads a separate support group for LGBT youth, and is workg to create a Lowuntry chapter of PFLAG: Parents, Fay, and Friends of Lbians and Gays. The natnal nonprof aims to promote the health and well-beg of lbian, gay, bisexual and transgenr people, their fai and iends.
