Though ially troduced as part of a group of elist Las Encas rich kids tent on beltlg the school’s transfer stunts, Anr, a buddg tennis champn, is quickly tablished as one of the nice on. In early scen, he noticeably reas om engagg his iend group’s threateng tnts, and even helps to -late some of the more potentially volatile arguments that break out between his iends and new stunts. It’s later revealed that Anr isn’t filthy rich like most of his peers. Rather, he’s at Las Encas as the son of the school’s prcipal. Pl, his father has big plans for his future as a tennis star, even though Anr fds himself losg tert the sport pletely.</p><p>Omar, a brother to one of the transfer stunts and a bt iend to another, is a siar limal space. In his first scene, he answers a qutn about his experience at his new school (which is <em>not</em> Las Encas) by sayg, “I’m a Mlim, I don’t play soccer, and I was ught readg the hallway. I’ll be on wanted signs tomorrow.” In addn to the ual stggl many young queer people face wh their sexuali, Omar also has to al wh his vout Mlim father’s efforts to sh him to an arranged marriage. Knowg his father would likely disown him if he knew he was gay, Omar rorts to alg dgs to save up enough money to pe om unr his father’s opprsive thumb.</p><p>Like any worthwhile televisn uple, Omar and Anr e om perfectly mismatched backgrounds. Anr is a privileged upper-middle-class teen beg raised by parents who are perhaps <em>too</em> supportive, while Omar works untls hours his parent’s rner store and spends any extra time he has sellg dgs to save extra money. The fact that they both have straed relatnships wh their fathers helps them bond on a slightly eper level.</p><p>And unlike many of the show’s other central relatnships — cludg one that starts as a bet of sorts, and not one but <em>two</em> love triangl — Omar and Anr’s relatnship seems to be built on somethg real. The two have an easy, palpable chemistry their scen together; if weren’t for the outsi forc that would nspire to keep them apart, they uld be the nng for the world’s happit In <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">that scene</a>, wh the two entwed pletely naked bed, Anr’s admissn seems to rry more weight than jt those words would imply. Wh everythg gog on around them, Anr tellg Omar that he lov him also meant that he was ready and willg to face the scty of the world, as long as meant beg wh the love of his life.</p><p>Omar, who admtedly has much more to lose by his own admissn, don’t immediately say back. In fact, he don’t say until days later, when he fds Anr nearly beaten to ath after one of the show’s most vlent scen. Convced that Anr was ad, Omar bursts to tears while holdg him, shoutg, “I love you! I love you, damn !” It’s heartbreakg. But luckily, Anr isn’t actually ad. Quickly after Omar says that, Anr opens his ey and forc his mouth to a sly se before sayg, “Asshole, they had to kill me for you to say .” (If you mt <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">I <em>did</em> cry very hard durg this scene</a>.)</p><p>By the time the eight-episo first season of <em>Éle</em> to a close, Omar and Anr’s relatnship seems to be on more solid ground than any other on the show. The fale fds the rekdlg of one relatnship (rich kid Guzmán and mean girl Lucrecia) as well as the rhapg of another (charmg smooth-talker Christian and self-terted Carla, now datg one another whout Polo, who they were a brief triad wh). But only Omar and Anr seem to be together out of a real shared sire to <em>be</em> wh each other, whout any other motivatns. Though Omar ends the season still (unrstandably) playg straight for his father, a late scene that shows him and Anr makg do wh their current suatn the only way they know how suggts that the two will somehow fd a way to make through. And now, wh the recent news that <em>Éle</em> was <a href=">renewed for a send season</a>, I n only get more exced to see what the future holds for TV’s bt uple.
