Introducg Roxane Gay onto stage was one of the anisers of the Women of the World ftival, who praised Gay’s great ntributn to a ‘fully tersectnal jt world’ which would ultimately ‘help our LGBT kids’. Gay was to be terviewed by fellow race rd holr Afua Hirsch, who, when she terviewed Patrisse Cullors for the WOW ftival the prev year, managed the amazg feat of askg precisely not one cisive qutn. I have to say, unlike most of the people I have vered for this blog, Gay was naturally funny, often flectg Hirsch’s ase and fake observatns (Hirsch: ‘Your range is actually extraordary-‘, terptg, Gay quipped ‘-I do have the range’).

Hirsch listed Gay’s many projects, mentned the blurb above, and, of urse, her cultural cricism. Gay wanted to do a readg of her work up ont, an opn piece, published the New York Tim the prev day, on Chris Rock. Gay scribed ‘the Slap’ as ‘open-hand’ (they always are) and ‘light’ and explaed that Chris Rock had earned ‘a fair amount of opprobrium over the years’ and that she, personally, was ‘not sad’ the asslt had happened, much to the dience’s light.
Gay went further, jokg that Rock should have turned the other cheek.
