Constcted 1916, the Gaythorne Railway Statn was built as a rult of the creased ary prence the immediate area and the need for effective troop transport durg the First World War. The statn was origally lled Rifle Range Statn due to s close proximy to the Commonwealth Rifle Range what is now Enoggera (Gallipoli) Army Barracks. The extensn of the railway le necsated urban velopment this part of Brisbane and is a remr of the importance of the railway system. The passenger statn buildg is an tact timber buildg nstcted wh the sign specifitns of the ernment at the time and as such is rare Brisbane.

The Gaythorne area the late neteenth century was predomately ral. Pickerg Street, Gaythorne, was named after this pneerg fay.
All large unoccupied areas Enoggera, Gaythorne and Mchelton were hurriedly. In 1923 the area known as Rifle Range was officially renamed Gaythorne and so too was the railway statn. Wh the mencement of the Send World War that same year the Gaythorne Statn was once aga important as a ary transport facily.

The first Queensland Italian prisoners of war arrived Gaythorne PW & I Camp 13th October 1943. The men were sent to work on Stanthorpe district farms 16th to 21st October 1943.
