A foundg member of the South Si Wrers Group the 1930s, Fern Gayn’s long and diverse reer clud learship rol the Women’s Internatnal League for Peace and Freedom and the South Si Communy Art Center. Fern Gayn was born the small town of Dunlap, Kan., on September 29, 1905. Her father, Andrew Gayn, left Mississippi the same perd, jog the migratn led by “Pap” Sgleton.
Along wh her two brothers and two sisters, Fern Gayn attend Dunlap’s all-black elementary school. Gayn went on to attend Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia and tght school for one year. There Gayn joed the CIO unn reprentg the seworkers, and walked on her first picket l.
