Gay Street Uned Methodist Church trac s orig to 1810 when the Knox Circu of Methodism was formed. The "eastern" charge purchased property on the southeast rner of Gay and Chtnut streets, and 1852, the first church buildg was erected on that se.
In 1865, the "eastern" and "wtern" charg rned the North Gay Street lotn. In 1886, the church buildg was extensively remoled and enlarged, and was named Gay Street Uned Methodist Epispal Church. The General Conference 1939 approved the merger of the Methodist Epispal church and the Methodist Prottant Church and the church on Gay Street was re-named Gay Street Methodist Church. The Evangelil Uned Brethren Church and the Methodist Church merged 1968, unr the approval of the General Conference, and om that time to the prent, the ngregatn has been lled the Gay Street Uned Methodist Church.
