In my historil scholarship I try to unrme a persistent myth that black muni are herently and evably more homophobic than whe muni. In Gay New York, and my next book, I show that for a long perd of time black society Harlem was more welg to the queers s midst than most of whe New York was.

As one of a small number of scholars the US workg on gay history, Chncey had been asked to ttify a se challengg a Colorado state nstutnal amendment that banned municipali om protectg gay people om discrimatn.
