While the Ftival and Pri Para are the rnerstone of Memphis Pri Ft, the entire celebratn (known as Memphis Pri Ft Weekend) spans 4 days begng wh Drag N Drive, a Big Gay Dance Party on Friday Night, the Pri Ftival and Pri Para on Saturday, and wdg down wh a Bnch Crawl on Sunday.

Billed as "the most lorful weekend of the year" ( reference to the rabow motif that has bee a symbol of gay rights), this year's edn of the Memphis Pri Ft ns Friday through Sunday, wh multiple events "signed to brg together the LGBTQ+ muny and our alli celebratn and support of our shared valu of love, clivy, and equaly, " acrdg to the webse of Mid-South Pri, the host ftival arriv at a ght time for eedom of exprsn and LGBTQ+ rights, wh some policians and others seekg to hib or curtail drag performanc and the creasg natnal regnn of June as "Pri Month. The Black Pri MovementIn 1991, a group of Black gay men and women Washgton, DC cid to take advantage of an annual Memorial Day weekend gatherg lled the “Children’s Hour”. Most of the Children’s Hour ftivi were held a Black gay equented bar lled the Club Hoe that was very popular om the 70’s to s closg the early 90’s.

Welmore Cook, Theodore Kirkland and Ernt Hopks, founrs of DC Black and Lbian Gay Pri Day as was lled 1991, wanted to ntue what had bee a tradn the Black LGBT muny buy addg an important nsiratn – they were gog to raise funds for anizatns who provid servic to Blacks/Ain Amerins affected by and fected wh HIV/AIDS, and dissemate important HIV/AIDS preventn rmatn to atten of the “Black Pri” event.

Grand Marshall, Peterson TosnoIn June 2008 Mid-South Pri brought Peterson Tosno, a former client of the Memphis-based ex-gay program Love Actn and an outspoken ex-ex-gay, back to Memphis to serve as a grand marshal of the pri para and to Alexanr & Kent Hamson were still -chairs at this time.

Communy OutreachIn 2014 Mid-South Pri expand their foc and began hostg fay events at parks, redbirds gam, and the zoo addn to an annual formal ball lled the GAYla, and many other themed events. Wh that beg said we feel that is time to change the name to regnize the muny that we live and to munite the fact that Pri is now a 3 day event wh a pre-party “The Big Gay Dance Party”, and ncert the night before, and the Sunday Bnch Crawl the day after.
