On his solo piano set Time Zon, Gayle performs seven of his trigug origals, blendg together hts of his youth (cludg stri piano, chord voicgs worthy of De Ellgton, and ns remiscent of Art Tatum) wh lsons learned om playg ee à la Cecil Taylor. Melodic agments are often utilized as the basis for the piec que effectively, and Gayle's "Blu In Mississippi" is a lorful spaced-out blu, filled wh ragg tone clters yet played at a relaxed tempo.
