A lot of the activists are now elrs and long-term survivors. Younger generatns too might be experiencg other forms of disabily, or might intify as untectable or be recently seronverted. I thk that brgs out different ways of playg wh how the posters are shared and activated. How do we make space for the plitns durg the COVID panmic and the uncertaty of the different ongog cris that we’re impacted by?</p><p>As you said too, the barrier to accsg archival materials is really challengg, pecially if you’re not a graduate rearcher or a Ph.D. stunt, but jt a muny member wantg to engage wh the materials Oftentim if you don’t have stutnal accs, you n’t get to them.</p><p><strong>Andy Campbell:</strong> Of the archiv I’ve ever been to, though, the ONE Archiv is one of the iendlit. They make a lot of effort their physil lotn to be open to all kds of people and to work wh whoever wants to see materials. ONE do the bt job of makg materials physilly — and now digally — accsible.</p><p><strong>Aten Villacis:</strong> There’s also the qutn of when thgs bee digized, what do you actually do wh them? How do you beg to thk through and honor the actual objects that the image refers to? How did you approach gettg them volved?</strong></p><p><strong>AC:</strong> We were thkg: What are the different generatns of activism and sign our muny? We wanted to get people who had s of experience together wh people who were maybe newly out of school or younger. For example, Alan Bell is a really important part of the story of queer life Southern California. He me om New York, but moved to Southern California durg the begng of the AIDS panmic and began a safer sex party lled Black Jack, which was a mutual masturbatn party. He veloped a newsletter for participants that sex party, which beme <em>BLK.</em> Eventually, that grew to BLK Publishg Company, which published magaz and perdils for all different parts of the Black queer muny Los Angel.</p><p>If Bell is the example of the elr activist, Silas Munro and <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Daniel Hyo Kim</a> are exampl of younger activists/signers, both of whom pick up on the legaci of someone like Bell. We’re hopg people read across the activists and signers that we ved and make nnectns between their experienc, the way they’re seeg the posters they chose, and the kds of narrativ or stori they tell. It’s makg clear the l of generatnal transmissn. As we know, many queer people have the fai that we’re born to, but also have the fai we choose to make around . But, qutng posnali as you’re workg through material relatn to where you’re at, who you’re talkg wh, and how you’re amg or ntextualizg people’s bodi or relatnships to their lived experienc is really important. For example, Tracy’s ssn wh Daniel Hyo Kim, they look at a poster that was tied to the Briggs Iniative <em>[a 1978 ballot iative seekg to ban anyone who had engaged “public homosexual activy” or “public homosexual nduct” om workg California public schools].</em> Part of what they talked about was how we’re aga livg through this issue of queer people tnal settgs and the kd of anxiety and fear that produc.
