The domant mol for unrstandg ntemporary gay and lbian inti has always been drawn om the theorizatn of Wtern queer cultur and muni. It is only recently that the Wtern (sometim read “global”) notn of “gayns” has been qutned, cricized or even centred, and this has occurred maly along the l of a crique of cultural imperialism and exemplified by the notn of “global queerg. ” Recent studi have drawn out the discrepanci between morn and tradnal reprentatns of non-Wtern, non-normative genrs and sexuali, brgg forth the rensiratn of what is meant by “gay” or “lbian” and re-examg appropriate gay and lbian polics that are sensive to lol and global parameters.

The aim of the book is to exame the emergence of ntemporary Che same-sex inti—gay, lbian, lala, l, money boy, tongzhi, duan bei—unr Cha’s openg up to globalizatn. Ho articulat four major trends  Che same-sex inti urban Cha: an creasgly globalized gay culture; an ongog nstctn of “digeno” Che inty that unteracts globalized gay culture; a hybridized transnatnal Che inty; and the emergence of a gay space Che cyberspace.
