HOST OF 'MAKG GAY HISTORY' REFLECTS ON G OF AGE DURG THE AIDS CRISIS

My personal favore is the guy that sent his gay magaze directly to ernment officials cludg Hoover and when the FBI ntacted his group tellg them to take the FBI off the list they replied along the l of 'take of yours first' queer617 reviews35 followersMay 4, 2023I will forever be grateful for this book. Lgbtq-booksJuly 4, 2019I was pesg the shelved of the largt bookstore my untry and I saw, a small ty rner, sandwiched on the lowt shelf between some other books was ‘Makg Gay History’. Now I e om a untry where homosexualy is punishable by law, and is so taboo that the ernment would rather pretend homosexuals don’t exist, than to have a dialogue about .

Throughout the years, homosexuals my untry have gaed ltle tractn and would never be placed to the same spotlight as has the Wtern world, although wh the youth g to age, the ncept of homosexualy has bee much better accepted (at least by those livg the cy). I had bought the book expectg to learn more about the views of homosexualy through the centuri, or at least mentns of early homosexual thoughts across different cultur. Instead, the entire book vers the battle for gay rights and gay liberatn Ameri startg om the early 1950s, and even though vered a good amount of history and tght me plenty, I still felt that this was only a small part of gay history that was told through the lens of Ameri.

I do still thk the book mak for a very tertg read, but is not one I particularly expected bee the primary foc of the book is about Ameri, and do not ver any gay movements/issu Asian or European untri.

MAKG GAY HISTORY

Overall, the book mak for a tertg read, but my biggt issue wh is that markets self as a hallmark of gay history (untentnally), but really only talks about Ameri. I love the way Eric Marc llects and puts stori together, nstctg opposg viewpots and craftg an easy-to-follow this was the first gay history book I read, I would give five stars, no qutn.

Marc mostly provid that, but the book is still a quick overview of gay history that drags some plac, so I had to give four reviewsSeptember 23, 2021This book chronicl the Gay Rights Movement through timate and personal terviews of the people who were part of each era done by the thor himself, om the 1940s to September 11, 2001. Some of the victori that happened after the book was published, end of sodomy laws, gay marriage, and growg trans visibily sprang om the foundatn of the first 50 years me to un the last twenty years. 438 reviews3 followersJuly 22, 2022Even though I have heard almost all of the terviews (often updated) on Eric Marc's podst, "Makg Gay History, " I greatly enjoyed this book.

MAKG GAY HISTORY : THE HALF-CENTURY FIGHT FOR LBIAN AND GAY EQUAL RIGHTS

This book gave me a new perspective, as although I was angered by the passg of Prop 8 California recently, when I read about the total lack of rights for gays and lbians the '50s and '60s I was enuraged that we will achieve equaly sooner rather than later. We hear directly om people who were out there riskg all for gay and lbian rights, there's a nice personal touch and stopped the book om beg a dry see the first gay anizatns beg set up the '50s, and I was amazed by the bravery of the people who went out there and were open about their sexualy a time when the world was credibly hostile toward gays and lbians and there were no laws place to protect them om discrimatn, om losg their jobs bee they were gay, beg arrted for walkg to a bar, movement gas more strength throughout the '60s and '70s, before sufferg a major setback the '80s wh the onset of the AIDS epimic. Throughout the '90s we get to see the gay rights movement played out on the natnal stage, as gay people w more rights and LGBT issu beg to have an impact on polics and printial mpaigns.

At many pots throughout the book I was pletely welled up wh emotn and pri to read about the urageo people who risked everythg and fought so hard for the gay rights movement. I took this book out om the library, but I'm fely gog to buy my own py now so that I n read aga and highlight all those passag I found particularly library-books ma-me-tear-up 815 reviews45 followersApril 24, 2015The five history of the gay movement the Uned Stat, startg all the way back the forti and fifti wh short excursns out of the closet, gog through Stonewall and s effect on lnchg the morn gay pri movement. Also, I realize the tle of this book is Makg GAY History, but I really wish there had been more trans* people volved wh this book, as I'm sure Sylvia Rivera wasn't the only one who fought for LGBTQ+ rights throughout the time perds vered.
