Until the Bromfield Street Edutnal Foundatn ceased operatn 1999 due to fancial difficulti, the Gay Communy News was one of the olst, most progrsive natnal newspapers the gay muny. The Bromfield Street Edutnal Foundatn also sponsored other projects, cludg the Prisoners Project, an effort between 1975 and 1999 to support gays and lbians prison; OutWre, an annual nference between 1990 and 1999 for gay and lbian wrers; Off-the-Page, a monthly readg seri between 1993 and 1995 Boston of gay and lbian thors; and the Queer Progrsive Organizg School, a fom 1997 to anize progrsive gay activists.
