Ljubljana’s posn at the foreont of the gay and lbian movement Eastern Europe stretch way back to the Yugoslav days, wh homosexual acts beg crimalised here as far back as 1976. The mid-1980s saw the foundg ŠKUC’s gay sectn (lled Magn), which put a rocket on the back of the movement so to speak. This led to the tablishment of the Ljubljana Gay & Lbian Film Ftival 1984, which is actually the olst gay and lbian film ftival on the ntent, as well as a weekly club night at K4 the centre of Ljubljana.
Magn would ntue to fight for gay and lbian rights throughout the 1990s, mpaigng for same-sex marriage to be legalised 1992.
It would still be a stretch however to ll Ljubljana a gay-iendly cy. The more appropriate term would most likely be gay-ambivalent, wh cints of discrimatn and outright vlence still not nsigned to the past. Gay Bars, etc.
