In Portugal, there is some evince that olr gay/bisexual men are plagued by social stereotyp and discrimatn, spe of the srcy of rearch on elrly Portugue gay/bisexual men (Pereira et al., 2017). This mol suggts that health and mental health equali that penalize lbian, gay, bisexual, and transgenr (LGBT) dividuals when pared to heterosexual dividuals occur bee of a set of nstant society-duced strsors, characterized as “homophobic” and “hostile, ” which often lead to harassment and discrimatn agast LGBT people, which may negatively affect their mental health. Proximal strsors are those that produce a direct effect on the stigmatized person, and pend largely on their own perceptn of the strsor source; they are characterized as a near, particular, and immediate strsor source (for example, beg harassed for havg a homosexual sexual orientatn) 1Mory strs procs lbian, gay, and bisexual populatns.
TURKEY: PORTUGUE TOURIST SAYS HE WAS JAILED FOR LOOKG GAY
Portugal, and particularly Lisbon, has always been a fairly gay-iendly statn, but 's rarely featured as one of the "mt vis" statns. * portuguese gay *
This perspective has creasgly gaed ground the scientific lerature, and several studi have been based on the theoretil pillars (Herek, 2000; Herek et al., 2003; Meyer, 2003) and Relatnship Satisfactn Olr Gay/Bisexual MenSexual and relatnship satisfactn are nsired stat of mental well-beg and are th regard as mental health ditors (Hillman, 2017; WHO, 2010), and the two variabl have signifint proximy (Reis & Sprecher, 2009; Šević, Ivanković, & Štulhofer, 2015; Von Humboldt, Leal, & Monteiro, 2016).
Siarly, when high relatnship satisfactn was observed, high satisfactn wh sexualy and sexual activy was evinced (Fredriksen-Goldsen et al., 2011, 2013; Šević et al., 2015) two nstcts, pecially relatn to gay/bisexual olr men, seem to be fluenced by psychosocial variabl such as sexual stigma (Barrientos & Paez, 2006; Herek et al., 2003; Meyer, 2003; Pereira et al., 2017), particularly self-stigma (Fredriksen-Goldsen et al., 2013; Herek et al., 2003), age-related discrimatn (Lyons, Pts, & Grierson, 2013; Pereira et al., 2017; Tney et al., 2015), and ncealment of sexual orientatn/inty (SI; Croghan, Moone, & Olson, 2014; Mura & Fredriksen-Goldsen, 2016; Neville, Khner, & Adams, 2015). Furthermore, the overvaluatn of physil aspects, attractivens, and youth the LGB muny may also adversely affect olr gay/bisexual men through discrimatn, rejectn, and age-related prejudice that n fluence sexual performance and relatnship satisfactn (Murray & Adam, 2001; Pereira et al., 2017). Studi nducted Wtern societi, pecially the USA and Europe, suggt that olr gay and bisexual men are subjected to double stigma—both sexual and age-related (Fredriksen-Goldsen et al., 2011; Herek et al., 2003; Kimmel, Hrichs, & Fisher, 2015; Meyer, 2003).
To close the gaps, we examed whether sexual stigma, ncealment of SI, and age-related discrimatn were negatively associated wh sexual and relatnship satisfactn among Portugue gay and bisexual men aged 60 years and olr. MethodParticipantsIncln creria for this study were the followg: (1) intifyg as a man; (2) havg a mory SI (gay, bisexual, pansexual); (3) beg a mted relatnship; (4) beg sexually active; and (5) beg at least 60 years old. To measure Concealment of SI, a sgle em (“At this moment nobody knows about my homosexualy/bisexualy”) was ed, and to measure ncealment of SI recent years, one em (“In last years have you felt the need to nceal or om your sexual orientatn/inty?

The study was further dissemated through profil created several datg apps and s for gay/bisexual men (and more generally men who have sex wh men), through which direct llaboratn was requted by sendg potential participants a brief scriptn of the study and lk to the onle survey. All the variabl ed were ntuo, wh the exceptn of SI and place of rince, which were dummy-d (SI: 0 = bisexual and 1 = gay; place of rince: 0 = non-urban and 1 = urban) shown Table 2, socmographic variabl were not signifintly rrelated wh sexual and relatnship satisfactn, wh the exceptn of place of rince.
DiscsnThe ma objective of this study was to evaluate whether psychosocial variabl associated wh sexual stigma and age-related stigma would have an impact on sexual and relatnship satisfactn olr gay/bisexual men. Th, nsirg the opprsn and harassment that elr Portugue gay and bisexual men have endured, the study of this mory populatn has important clil and rearch implitns, pecially due to srcy of rearch this field (ILGA-Portugal, 2018).
Although some studi have shown that pared to gay men, bisexual men tend to manift higher levels of ternalized stigma and experience higher sexual stigma, which may negatively associate wh their sexual and relatnship health (Balsam & Mohr, 2007; Fredriksen-Goldsen et al., 2011, 2013; Fredriksen-Goldsen & Mura, 2010), we did not fd such differenc this study.

Neverthels, the fact that there were no differenc between gay and bisexual men may have been due to the small number of bisexual dividuals, and future studi should attempt to llect larger sampl of bisexual and other plurisexual dividuals to further explore the differenc among olr sexual mory was found that self-stigma had a relevant negative impact for both sexual and relatnship satisfactn. Neverthels, the majory of olr Portugue gay/bisexual men entered their adolcence and adulthood at a time when Portugal uld be nsired a highly opprsive and discrimatory untry, due to the dictatorship perd which lasted until 1975 (Acrnero, 2014; Lop et al., 2017). This fdg further suggts that sexual stigma (and self-stigma particular) may have a greater negative impact for olr gay/bisexual Portugue men than negative experienc associated wh agg (Meyer, 1995, 2003) was also shown that the signifint pennt variat for both health out were the same: self-stigma and greater ncealment of SI recent years.
