Durg the 1960’s, people had bee more aware of the culture of discrimatn and tolerance that surround gays. In 1969, homosexualy was illegal and bar raids were monplace. The crowd outsi the bar beme agated as they watched several gay men and women beg arrted.
The chant, “Gay Power” and “We Shall Overe” beme lour and lour as more and more patrol rs arrived on the scene. The monstratns brought global attentn to the plight of the Gay muny.
The Stonewall event marked the begng of the Gay Pri movement. A year after the Stonewall uprisg, to mark the anniversary on June 28, 1970, the first Gay Pri march took place New York Cy, Chigo, Los Angel, and San Francis.
