I thk ’s also the aspect that I grew up que poor, and many ways stgglg. That was around the time when I started washg rs and cuttg lawns and all sorts of work to be able to buy myself a TV and a ltle DVD player. <em>The Lord of the Rgs</em> had e out on DVD, and I had the behd-the-scen.</p><p>I was havg all the sir and qutns about this world that I’m now , of entertament. And was the first time that I got a glimpse at not only an epic tale but the behd-the-scen. I got to see the sign and all the work that went to , and had a huge impact on me. That's when I unrstood I uld live this space, whatever shape or form would be. At the same time he is wh humans who don't want him to be what he is. So he is pletely othered om both sis, which is somethg else my life I've experienced, beg om a culture that I feel outsi of and then gog to another culture that I also get booted out. I live the -between, or tersectnal spac, very much like him. Although he's a warrr and an apt archer and fighter, he's fely que vulnerable and ternal and only speaks when he has to. Do you fd yourself spendg a lot of time nature when you have ee time?</strong></p><p>Defely. I grew up the mountas of Puerto Ri, and I thk that was one of the reasons why I was so drawn to elv. I grew up there and didn't have a TV—all I had was ntemplatn and beg wh nature. I always say that they were like my bt iends. I learned so much om tre, and I played so much nature and rpected so much, that when I saw the elv, that they revere nature and build around nature, that their spirualy is nnected to —I fely felt an affy to them more than any other characters.</p><p>Beg New Zealand, that is jt one of the most betiful plac the world. Also, wh the prence of the Maori digeno culture, who are also lovers of nature and protectors of their land, was the perfect settg for me. I would go to the parks and touch the tre.</p><p><strong>Was there a scene you loved shootg the most?</strong></p><p>I have many moments I hope make to the show after the ed. [<em>Lghs.</em>] I had one scene particular, perhaps not the most epic, but I liver a monologue I had dned wh. The journey of dng was so epic— was like six, seven months gog through the dn procs. I was rejected for the role several tim and really fought for . I really went for and lived wh this piece of text for such a long time.</p><p>Then COVID h one day before my first day, after three months of trag, and we went away for six months. So when I got to say that monologue, had been over a year and a half of this journey. My soul was g out of me sayg this, and 's one of the most powerful moments that I thk the character has created.</p><p><strong>Wh the onscreen world of</strong> <em><strong>LOTR</strong></em><strong>, and</strong> <em><strong>The Hobb</strong></em><strong>, there hasn’t been much racial diversy. What do mean for you as a Puerto Rin actor to be the show?</strong></p><p>As an Ao-Lato, Ao-Caribbean who also intifi as a Black person and an digeno person of Puerto Ri, this is what I wanted. When I set out to start actg, I always say what drove me there wasn't another actor or a famo movie that I watched.
