The SCA Bloemfonte is hearg Qwelane’s appeal agast the South Gteng High Court lg which found him guilty of hate speech 2017 followg a lumn he had wrten a Sunday newspaper 2008 agast gay people.

The High Court judge led that he was guilty of hate speech and was cg propaganda hate agast homosexuals and the transgenr muny. Legal reprentative for Qwelane, Advote Mark Oppenheimer has submted that the article was no way promotg vlence agast the lbian, gay, bisexual, transgenr and tersex (LGBTI) muny. The lumn, tled “Call me nam, but gay is not okay” was published his pacy as a journalist.
In this lumn, Qwelane exprsed his opn about homosexuals and he highly praised former Zimbabwe Print Robert Mugabe’s unapologetic stance agast gays and lbians.
