The olst gay bar town, The Srp is one of Charlotte’s bt and most nsistently by night clubs, terg to a hugely diverse crowd age, race, and genr exprsn. Acrdg to the Charlotte Lbian and Gay Fund’s lerature, the Fund was created to posively impact the unrfundg of nonprof anizatns servg the lbian, gay, bisexual and transgenr (LGBT) muny. Says a member of one anizatn the Fund supported this year, “The Charlotte Lbian and Gay Fund helps keep Charlotte’s LGBT anizatns alive so that they n go about servg their missns.
The missn of the Charlotte Lbian and Gay Fund—a llective givg and endowment iative of Foundatn for the Carolas—is “to cultivate one muny that supports lbian and gay dividuals and fai, wh the belief that all people should be treated wh equal rpect and digny all facets of the muny. ” Toward that end, the Fund awards grants to anizatns that support the LGBT muny and to bridge-buildg iativ that seek to cultivate allianc and support wh the non-gay muny Charlotte-Mecklenburg. “Makg our gay muny healthy”.
In the 10 years the Fund has existed, has helped anizatns such as Time Out Youth, the LGBT Communy Center of Charlotte, Camp Pri, the Gay Men’s Chos of Charlotte and many other anizatns sta their programs and mount special projects that strengthen the LGBT muny and s nnectn to the muny at large. As Jenni Gaisber, Chair of the Fund’s Board of Advisors recently said a vio celebratg the fund’s work the muny, “We are supportg the groups that are makg our gay muny healthy.
