In 2006, the majory of new HIV fectns were MSM. We sought to scribe numbers of sual sex partners among US MSM. Data are om the first MSM cycle of the Natnal HIV Behavral Surveillance system, nducted om 2003 to 2005. Relatnships between number of sual male sex partners wh the prev year and mographic rmatn, self-reported HIV stat, and risk behavrs were termed through regrsn mols. Among 11,191 sexually active MSM, 76% reported a sual male partner. The median sual partner number was three. Lower number of sual partners was associated wh black race, Hispanic ethnicy, and havg a ma sex partner the prev year. Factors associated wh a higher number clud gay inty, exchange sex, both jectn and non-jectn dg e. Beg HIV-posive was associated wh more partners among non-blacks only. Age differenc partner number were seen only among chat room ers. MSM who were black, Hispanic or had a ma sex partner reported fewer sual sex partners. Our rults suggt specific populatns of MSM who may benef most om terventns to rce sual partner numbers.
