A versn of this article appears prt on, Sectn C, Page 23 of the Natnal edn wh the headle: FILM REVIEW; Gay Prit, Inoclasm And Style. 'Prit' is a plex film, alg wh hard issu of ct and homo-sexualy, but first wh the nflict between the prit missn as a moral lear and the Proctian laws of the Catholic church he needs to obeye by. It really mak no difference whether the Prit is gay or straight, as human begs, they are undoubtedly often ught between the sire to rpond to normal human needs and the requirements of the church.
I will warn you that, if you tend to crge at the portrayal of gay attractn (as I do), you WILL fd yourself dog so at var pots this film ("Brokeback Mounta" has nothg on "Prit"), but nothg is ever prented poor taste or gratuoly, my opn. Film is an emotn charged look at the Catholic Church's problems and ver-ups ncerng a closeted guilt ridn gay prit's sexual sir, and a ltle girl beg molted by her disgtg father who relat the nfsnal not for penance, but to tell the prit is his right and not to terfere.
PHILIPPINES-FILM: CATHOLIC CHURCH BLKS AT MOVIE ON GAY PRIT
Promotns for Pl Verhoeven's Benetta spired me to revis two films about reprsed gay Catholics. Prit’s hypocril Father Greg harms others by actn. The btal Bishop Lili stroys two liv. And y, whether you agree wh s stance or not, kudos to the movie for takg a plethora of tough subjects like homosexualy, relig guilt, ct and life on earth vs. But Father Greg's smug ltle world soon begs to sp out of ntrol as he attempts to al wh his own homosexualy and wh a heartbreakg secret learned by him the nfsnal. If someone has grown up Catholic and gay, and particularly if he choos to enter the prithood, he's gog to have to have veloped a sense of self-prervatn along the way.
He arriv a new parish loted a lower soc-enomic area, supposedly rponse to his own requt, lectur another prit bee of his appropriate behavr and then bicycl off to a gay club uldn't have been very far om his new postg. And his love tert, Graham, seems remarkably unaware of the potential for problems that a prit might face if disvered to be havg a gay the church's history of buryg such problems rather than alg wh them, the reactns of the bishop may or may not have been realistic, although an amazg number of people seem to be borrle drama queens this film, not least Father Greg who turns the foc of everyone's problems onto himself even before he manag to h the headl.
He is also stgglg wh his own homosexual feelgs towards Graham (Robert Carlyle) movie has a lot of thgs gog on and 's tryg to make a pot about sex and the church. The film is NOT ABOUT beg a gay speaks to any thkg person who has ever qutned their fah only to fd that there are no answers and that fah is all there Greg (L Roche) is gay and nflicted.

For me 's pretty simple, if a prit who ma of vow a celibacy engag sex wh eher a woman or a homosexual, then they shouldn't be a prit. The ma character tri to keep morally and spirually centered - spe handips - and my opn that's worth tung film is NOT an dictment of the Catholic church or ABOUT a homosexual Prit. I'm gay and nearly beme a missnary for a Prottant fah that has strong prohibns agast homosexualy, so I n relate somewhat to Father Greg.
Father Greg Pilkgton is torn between his ll as a nservative Catholic prit and his secret life as a homosexual wh a gay lover, owned upon by the Church. Upon hearg the nfsn of a young girl of her ctuo father, Greg enters an tensely emotnal spirual stggle cidg between choosg morals over relign and one life over another. * gay priest movie *
Prit movi are almost as certa to clu this story-le as submare movi are to clu that slow, terrifygly tense scent below the maximum pth for which the sub was I love about this movie is that really isn't about whether homosexualy is OK.
