Last week, a story broke which tailed alleged racist, sexist and homophobic ments ma by CBS executiv about employe at the work’s Philalphia statn. One of the alleged ments was that an employee was “too gay for Philalphia. ” PGN reached out to CBS Philly news anchor Jim Donovan, who is openly gay and has been wh the statn sce 2003, to ask about the alleged ments as well as the realy of beg LGBTQ the broadst news dtry.

I will say my first reactn was that I did chuckle a ltle b bee I thought ‘what do too gay mean? Look, I know that beg openly gay probably closed some doors for me; I know that some people may have had rervatns about hirg me, but fortunately my work stood for self and I got the jobs. They were the first to make sure those old homophobic Dr.

When I began my reer the late ‘80s, there were no openly gay reporters or anchors, at least none that I was aware of, and I lived New York Cy. You began your reer only a after works started to show gay people on TV news, much ls hire them.
It was tertg, bee when I got here, I knew Philalphia was the birthplace of gay rights. I remember someone said to me ‘there’s never been an openly gay person on televisn here’ and I said to them ‘what do you mean?
This is 2003, ’ and they said that there had been gay people but nobody has known ; wasn’t broadst out loud. I’d e om Columb, Oh before g to Philalphia, and we had a number of openly gay people on TV Columb. So if somethg was said behd the scen that he was ncerned about me beg gay, I still got the job anyway.
