After 1945, the lears of the two new German stat ed the history of Weimar’s failed mocratic experiment to strengthen the legimacy of the postwar orr, particularly Wt Germany. Weimar mocracy, emergg the aftermath of one world war and cshed by the start of another, had to appear as a tastrophic failure, one that had brought on the darkt chapter of the untry’s history and that was th never to be repeated. Some of the most mornist aspects of the culture of the Weimar era were far om iendly toward parliamentary mocracy: The Exprsnist wrer Hanns Johst was an early supporter of Natnal Socialism, while the fluential Communist stage director Erw Pistor openly disparaged the mocratic system.</p></div><div class="article-body" data-qa="article-body"><p data-ttid="drop-p-letter" data-el="text" class="wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overriStyl font-py" dir="null">The Weimar Republic, on the other hand, was not as weak as was often portrayed.
