Whout the grant funds, Gayhart said he thks will take more like $50, 000 to keep MaeStreet om closg permanently. The origal owner opened MaeStreet to give members of the gay muny another fun and safe bar optn town, Gayhart said.

"We are one of the last LGBTQ+ plac around, " Gayhart said. "At one pot, we were predomantly gay, but you e on a Saturday night now and you don't know what you've got. "In addn to beg a party hotspot, MaeStreet has hosted and participated a variety of fundraisers over the years for other , cludg Broadway Giv Back, The Spir of Givg Holiday Gift Drive, Harbor to the Bay and others throughout the year, Gayhart said.

"I dont thk a lot of people out there know what MaeStreet do, " Gayhart said. "We aren't jt a place where half-naked guys dance around, [which] is what a lot of old timers believe that a gay club is.

Fecte, who is openly gay, said he has felt a personal nnectn to MaeStreet sce he first started workg town. "As far as havg a bar that intifi self as beg for gay people, MaeStreet is one of the last, " Fecte said. "MaeStreet played a key role raisg the LGBTQ pri flag Ogunqu's Veterans Park, Gayhart said.

"We are the only gay place that people n go to feel safe, meet someone, talk to people they know [ Ogunqu] … There is The Front Porch, and gays still go there, but isn't gay-owned and operated anymore, " Gayhart Barber, owner of bed and breakfast Moon Over Mae Ogunqu, is a iend of Gayhart's and would ocsnally appear at MaeStreet as drag queen Merva Mae.
