Lookg for a space where I uld feel fortable, accepted and safe, I began gog to Cze Bar, a gay club the Strip District — pecially for “College Night” on Thursdays, when unr 21-year-olds were allowed . The ia of a “safe space” is a load term, but, as a young gay man, that’s ultimately what was — I felt a sense of belongg. I only had the urage to go to Cze, the first gay bar I ever walked to, bee a straight girl iend of me went wh me.
I know many gay men who go to gay bars wh a gaggle of women bee mak them feel safe. Kathere Kidd, an English lerature profsor at Pt, said many straight people go to gay bars and clubs to soak up the fun and liberatg aspects of queer culture.
