The cy of Monterey's last gay bar has closed. Rod Montre, who vised the bar as a patron and as a muny tor who tted people for HIV, wrote an e-mail, "This was a neighborhood gay bar where the GLBT muny felt safe... There were once six gay bars the area, he said.

Now, the only gay-intified bar around is Fran's Norma Jean's Castroville. As for what Monterey's LGBT muny will do now, Montre said, "The Lighthoe bar was a bs, but we are a gay and lbian muny of iends, so there will always be a place. Unlike some larger ci, Monterey don’t have one specific “gayborhood” – but this isn’t a negative.
While not specifilly a gay tablishment, the Hula's Island Grill is a fun, tiki-style rtrant wh a vibrant, lorful atmosphere, makg a very fun place to grab a drk or a be to eat wh iends.
