He has probably more ee speech than jt about anyone the world. He puts out statements that make headl. He n go out and give a speech any time he wants. The film shows the horrific treatment of Bobby Seale, who was the only Black fendant. And we were actually filmg this prr to the protts over the murr of Gee Floyd. And so, really, ’s a tribute to anyone who stands up agast jtice, om Ukrae to Mosw to Kenosha to Portland. When I read the script the send time, was actually durg the heargs for Brett Kavangh. And the heargs were supposed to be about jtice, but what we saw at the time was profound jtice, to me. Profsor Ford was swearg that her allegatns were te. And I remember one of the mtee asked Brett Kavangh to swear before God that what he said was rrect, and that was enough for the mtee member. And felt like we were seeg two parallel jtice systems here— one a morn one where she’s appealg to fact and proper rellectn and evince, and one pendg on belief God. I mean, uld have been half a thoand years ago. I uldn’t believe was happeng. It seemed like a perversn of jtice, a system that didn’t work. And I was particularly spired by left-wg Jews who went down South to fight systemic racism. Abbie Hoffman was one of them. He was a guy who was ready to sacrifice his life to fight agast racism and fight for jtice. And also, what spired me was he was a Yippie. His antics and pranks got all the attentn, but he was adly ser. He was riskg his life to fight racism and fight the war Vietnam. And the antics were — the more I read about him — and I tried to read everythg I uld and watch everythg I uld. I went down to archiv and heard old stand-up that he’d done. Everythg was tentnal wh Abbie, even his edy. He was very, very fluenced by Lenny Bce. He tried to emulate the way that Lenny livered gags. He was actually even fluenced by Lenny’s trial. That nvced Abbie that they would go to jail. It didn’t matter what would happen durg the trial. The aim of the trial was not to clare their nocence. It was to nvce people back home that the war Vietnam was immoral. And he was g the tactics of the bouffon, which is a type of theater that I studied unr this French clown teacher. My only means of munitn was a cell phone wh the director and Jason Woler and the producer, Ant H. And so they were sentially sayg, OK, go now. There’s one time I actually went there three tim. The first time was a room service trolley, which we did end up not showg. A room service guy brgs a room service trolley. I’m actually hidg unrneath there. I poked my head out om unrneath the tablecloth wh a sign to my dghter, sayg, “Don’t do .” And she’s like, you know, and sentially, Rudy was slightly spic. He turns around, I had to put the tablecloth down. In the end, I removed that. The send time, I me as a sound guy. And the third time, I me to stop what was happeng. But yeah, I was relyg on the Jason Woler, the director, and Ant H to text me. And the worryg thg was — we’d done everythg to try and make sure that the terview went well. We had hidn meras.
