Allys Chayn, a mastay of the Toronto drag scene, got her start at The Beaver. When she found the venue 2008, she was an awkward gay teen wh “green emo bangs down to my ch” and, naturally, didn’t f at the bars The Village, Toronto’s mastream gay mec. Although s programmg felt revolutnary s propensy for platformg strange and challengg forms of drag, Bae says the amount of BIPOC queens on stage at The Beaver — and on drag stag throughout the cy — was lackg.</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-1 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p>“Even though The Beaver was super acceptg, there were lerally no POC performers at the bar,” Bae said. “I wanted to reclaim the space.”</p><p>In 2018, Bae pched Livg Color, a monthly drag show produced by and for queer people of lor, and fortunately The Beaver’s management said “y” whout hatn. leftover pal which uld be put toward a new lotn. “It's important to to ntue the vibe of The Beaver and have a space where queers n be their queery selv.”</p><p>But while The Beaver may have not ever que achieved that utopic visn, Chayn believ that the bar’s magic was never s physil lotn but s people. “I look forward to whatever our big new thg is bee I believe the people who did the first time so
